We are proud to announce that Basetsana has been honoured as a Young Global Leader (YGL) 2011. This nomination is in recognition of her record of professional accomplishments, her commitment to society and her potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world through her inspiring leadership. This honour goes to the most distinguished young leaders nominated below the age of 40 from around the world.
As an honouree, Basetsana is invited to join The Forum of Young Global Leaders as an active community member. The YGL community forms a unique global network of peers from diverse backgrounds and fields, with a highly visible opportunity to significantly impact world affairs and shape the global agenda.
In response to the above honour, Bassie has the following to say:
“It is a huge honour and privilege that had been bestowed upon me, to be nominated as a member of this esteemed community of global leaders.”
We wish Bassie all the best in her new venture as an Ambassador for South Africa. As she travels around the globe to meet up with other YGL’s to learn, connect and share experiences about fostering innovation from world-class entrepreneurs, investors and thought-leaders, we are confident that her participation will contribute greatly to shaping a better future, not only for South Africa, but for the world.
Bassie has just returned from the YGL Silicon Valley Innovation Summit in San Francisco. She is due to set off again to join The World Economic Forum on Africa, which will bring together 700 top global and regional business leaders, heads of state/government and ministers, as well as leaders from media, academia and civil society.
At this Forum, Leaders will come together to review the challenges facing the region and plans that could ensure a more secure future. The translation of growth into inclusive and sustained development on the continent is complex and the meeting agenda will integrate these issues under the following three thematic pillars:
- Shaping Africa’s Role in the New Reality
- Fostering Africa’s New Champions of Growth
- Building Partnerships for Inclusive Development
Thereafter, she will join the YGL Public Leadership Taskforce Master Class that will take place in New York City in July, 2011.
We will follow this journey with Basie and keep you up to date with all the exiting news and learning that Basie will bring back with her after her interactions with various leaders and other YGL’s across the globe.
Look out for our next edition of “Touching Lives” Newsletter where we will continue to share the exiting journey and the day to day happenings of Bassie: 2011.
